A
Riding Experience for the Disabled programme,
Chiang Mai
,
Thailand
.
When
Judy
Cook
started
Hope
Home
for disabled children just over a year ago,
Rupert
and
Janet
Abbott
had the idea of being able to offer these children an experience of riding for
therapy and fun. They were then
offered a pony,
Robin
, and recently they have been given a much younger pony,
April
.
April
is being trained to pull a trap and
Robin
will be used for giving rides. We
are fencing off an area in the grounds of
Hope
Home
in which to do the riding and we have volunteers who have offered to assist
when we are in a position to begin the riding sessions.
As
all of us involved are busy in other work and ministries we are looking for
someone who could look after this programme: communicating with other similar
riding organisations (e.g. we have been offered a link with one of the many RDA
centers in England); being in charge of the sessions, scheduling volunteers and
managing the stables.
There
are currently 8 children at
Hope
Home
but the potential for the programme is much wider than working with just these
children. We have been asked if some of the children from our own fostering
community could be offered a regular riding session;
Hope
Home
comes under the local Government orphanage where there are other children who
would benefit, and nearby there is a large school for disabled children.
We
are looking for someone who has experience working with horses and people
(especially children) and who can be self-funded while staying here.
Specific experience with programmes for disabled persons is not required
but would be helpful.
